LOCKE POSTBYEN

COPENHAGEN

The café at Locke Postbyen is conceived as a neighbourhood bakery and café, shaped by an understated design approach and simple, honest materiality. Wood, leather and stone are used to bring warmth and softness to the concrete shell, creating a calm and welcoming environment rooted in everyday use.

A central counter in peach-toned stone anchors the space, its façade articulated in timber with a rhythmic, sculptural relief that adds depth and tactility. Above, a handmade sculptural pendant casts a soft, diffused glow, reinforcing the café’s quiet, domestic character. A central island further grounds the layout, creating a natural point of gathering and flow.

Perimeter seating is formed from bespoke timber joinery wrapping around a curved concrete drum, integrating counter tables and soft lighting to create a continuous rhythm along the edge of the space. Paired with high stools, this arrangement encourages informal use while maintaining a sense of cohesion. Drawing on the principles of Danish modernism, the space balances clarity of form with warmth and familiarity—resulting in an environment that feels effortless, timeless and inviting.
