MINISTRY OF SOUND

ELEPHANT AND CASTLE - LONDON

No Velvet Rope Society is the VIP space inside London’s legendary Ministry of Sound. Set on a reworked mezzanine above The Box, the club’s iconic main room, the design reimagines exclusivity by placing guests within the energy and atmosphere of the dance floor rather than apart from it. The concept references Ministry’s brutalist setting and hedonistic heritage, balancing rawness with a heightened sense of material richness.

A monolithic concrete bar, stepped and sculptural with a chunky terrazzo counter, anchors the room and glows with saturated orange light. Around it, bespoke furniture in rounded forms softens the stark architecture: deep velvet booths in inky and wine tones sit on brushed steel plinths that reflect and catch the light, while terrazzo-topped tables and layered platforms orient views back to The Box. Along one edge, a faceted glazed screen opens sightlines to the main bar, while full-height fuchsia curtains frame the spectacle of the dance floor or draw closed to create intimacy.

Sculptural lighting deepens the atmosphere, casting a moody glow across concrete, velvet and steel, while polished surfaces capture shifting reflections from the club beyond. Even the bathrooms form part of the experience, with graphic terrazzo, glossy red walls and mirrored panels amplifying the sense of immersion. Unapologetic, tactile and theatrical, No Velvet Rope Society transforms the mezzanine into a stage within a stage – a space both raw and elevated, true to the rebellious spirit of Ministry of Sound.
